A Narrative

I am from Sydney, Australia and am married with two beautiful fur babies and one scale baby. I have a Masters of Research in neuroscience, am currently working as a research assistant in neuro-ophthalmology (I dissect eyes and brains for a living) and as of 2021 I have started my PhD in the same field.  I also do some restoration work for the Macquarie University Biology Museum, where you can find some of my works displayed.

From there to here…

My love of taxidermy began at the tender age of 8 during a school excursion to the Australian Museum.  This prompted me to return home with the ambition that my cat would be taxidermied upon her death.  Sadly, when this occurred some 18 years later I had neither the skills nor the knowhow to go about this and thus, she was buried.  I set about trying to find courses, teachers, someone, anyone to show me how to be a necromancer taxidermist.  Sadly this is not a trade that has been taught in Australia since the 1970’s, a gross tragedy.

Fast forward to 2017; my love for this beautiful art form has not diminished in the slightest, a fact well known by both friends and family.  It was during a conversation around the D&D table that our druid (my mate Amelia) mentions a group from Melbourne that teaches taxidermy.  I leap on their website and find I’m fortunate enough to catch their skeletal articulation class that is coming to Sydney in November.  And that was the beginning of the end… Of me not knowing bugger all about taxidermy.  The name of this amazing team of humans is Rest In Pieces Taxidermy and I was fortunate enough to be part of that team between 2020-2022.

A couple of years, more classes and several trips to Melbourne later I finally feel confident enough in my abilities to start this little venture.  Please follow my adventures as I create, learn and sometimes fail to produce some exciting and interesting pieces. Also please buy stuff!
